History

Palos Verdes Estates traces its history back to 1912, when a consortium of real estate developers bought about 16,000 acres of land on the peninsula. Famous landscape architect and park designer Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. enlisted to draw up the original layout. As a result, Palos Verdes Estates became one of the earliest planned residential communities in the nation. The city was incorporated in 1939.
